In response to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy’s memorandum on "Ensuring Free, Immediate, and Equitable Access to Federally Funded Research" [PDF], NASA released an updated draft plan for access to federal funded research: "NASA’s Public Access Plan: Increasing Access to the Results of Scientific Research” [PDF]. NASA seeks public input on the updated draft plan through a request for information (RFI) that closes on 17 August 2023. Early comments are encouraged. Comments received after this date will be considered to the extent practicable.
NASA is hosting a webinar on 17 July 2023 from 1p-2p Eastern (10a-11a Pacific) on this updated draft plan for access to federal funded research, to explain what has changed, to discuss scientific publications, data (and data management plans), and software (and software management plans). There will be time after the presentation for questions.
Those interested in attending the webinar can register via WebEx. Those who register will receive information on how to connect to the webinar.
For the full text of the RFI and response instructions, see the Federal Register Notice for this RFI. After the Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS) has finished reviewing the responses, the responses may be posted to the NASA OCS website without redaction. All submissions will be acknowledged, and NASA will publicize a summary of the submissions within 90 days.
