Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO) Technology Roadmap Webinar

Dear Physics of the Cosmos (PhysCOS) community members,

The NASA Astrophysics Division ExEP and PhysCOS/COR program offices invite you to a Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO) Technology Roadmap Webinar, on Thursday 14 November 2024, from 1p – 2:30p Eastern (10a – 11:30a Pacific).

Please join HWO Chief Technologist Matt Bolcar and HWO Deputy Chief Technologist Feng Zhao, who will describe the HWO technology roadmap and ways that the astrophysics technology community can get involved in achieving the goals of the roadmap. HWO is the concept for NASA’s next flagship space observatory, to be designed around the capability to discover and characterize potentially habitable plants orbiting other stars and to perform a broad and transformative program of astrophysics observations. These ambitious mission science goals require new technology — particularly in the areas of coronagraphy, ultra-stable telescopes, and ultra-violet instrumentation.

The event will consist of 45 minutes of talks followed by 45 minutes of Q&A/Discussion, where attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback on the roadmap. Please see the event web page.

Microsoft Teams connection information.

Wishing you the best,

Dr Francesca Civano & Dr Brian Humensky
PhysCOS Chief Scientists, NASA GSFC
Dr Bernard Kelly
PhysCOS Support Scientist, NASA GSFC
