Get Involved by Joining a Science Interest Group

A Science Interest Group (SIG) consists of members interested in a specific sub-field of Physics of the Cosmos science (e.g., gravitational waves, gamma rays, etc.). These groups typically meet regularly to discuss and share scientific results, analysis techniques, and scientific gaps, as well as the role of NASA in advancing that sub-field. SIGs may also identify the data and technology needs that can help advance scientific discovery in the sub-field. Missions, data, and technologies from across the entire NASA portfolio are often utilized by SIGs.

  • Gravitational Wave (GW SIG) (Chairs: Sean McWilliams and Eric Burns): Coordinate community activities and preparations for a future gravitational wave mission.
  • X-ray (XR SIG) (Chairs: Ryan Hickox, Grant Tremblay, David Pooley, and Kristin Madsen): Coordinate community activities and preparations for a future X-ray astronomy mission.
  • Gamma Ray (GR SIG or GammaSIG) (Chairs: Bindu Rani, Justin Finke, and Eric Burns): Coordinate community activities and preparations for a future gamma ray astronomy mission.
  • Cosmic Ray (CR SIG) (Chairs: Andrew Romero-Wolf and Athina Meli): Coordinate community activities and preparations for a future cosmic ray astronomy mission.
  • Cosmic Structure (CoS SIG) (Chairs: Vera Gluscevic): Coordinate community activities for future space activities concerning the nature of dark energy, dark matter, neutrinos, and tests of inflation, as well as astrophysical galaxy evolution.
