LEM Science Workshop 28 February – 3 March 2023

The workshop Science with the Line Emission Mapper: From Planets to Galaxies and Beyond will take place 28 February – 3 March 2023 at the Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, MA. The workshop will present the broad science goals of Line Emission Mapper (LEM), an X-ray Probe mission for all astronomers for the 2030s. The workshop will be held in person, with a limited hybrid participation option available.

LEM's primary goal is a comprehensive look at the physics of galaxy formation, including the stellar and black-hole feedback and flows of baryonic matter into and out of galaxies, which are best studied in X-rays. LEM will use a groundbreaking 2 eV spectral resolution microcalorimeter array/IFU, covering a 30' field with 15" resolution, to map the soft X-ray line emission from objects that constitute a galactic ecosystem – SNRs, star-forming regions, superbubbles, Fermi/eROSITA bubbles in the Milky Way and their analogs in other galaxies, Circumgalactic Medium, and the Intergalactic Medium beyond the confines of galaxies and clusters. LEM will also transform other areas of astrophysics, from planets to AGN.

Abstract submission for the workshop is open and will close on 9 December 2022. Registration for the workshop will begin in November.
