ROSES-21: D.12 XRISM Guest Scientist program deferred to 2022

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) X-Ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission (XRISM), which is expected to launch in 2023, will bring significant advances in our understanding of the high-energy universe. The objective of the XRISM Guest Scientist (XGS) program element will be to enhance the scientific return during the Performance Verification (PV) phase of XRISM by opening the opportunity to participate in the analysis of data collected on individual targets during the XRISM PV phase to scientists based in the U.S. or Canada, who are not members of the NASA-appointed instrument team. Following the selection of PV-phase targets, this ROSES-2021 element will be amended and clarified to list the PV-phase targets, provide a due date for proposals solicited through the XGS program, and describe the process and criteria used in their evaluation.

ROSES-2021 Amendment 53 announces that D.12 The X-Ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission Guest Scientist Program, which had previously been listed as TBD, will not be solicited in ROSES this year. Instead, the Astrophysics Division intends to solicit it as part of ROSES-2022.

Please direct questions concerning D.12 XRISM to Valerie Connaughton at valerie.connaughton@nasa.gov.
